Loudoun County, Virginia’s Department of Planning and Zoning is recruiting a Senior Planner in the Zoning Administration division. About the role
As a member of the Zoning Administration team, you will work closely with applicants, the Planning Commission, the Board of Supervisors, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Zoning Ordinance Committee, staff from a variety of County agencies, and the public.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to major economic development projects
- Work with potential clients to understand the Zoning Ordinance
- Review a variety of land development applications for zoning conformance
- Research and prepare zoning determination letters
- Process variance and appeal applications
- Serve as project manager in the preparation and processing of Zoning Ordinance amendments
- Participate in other special projects
- Assist other staff with the preparation and review of work products
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field; five (5) years of related work experience
- OR Master's degree in Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related field; three (3) years of related work experience
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Valid driver’s license and successful completion of driving record, credit, and criminal background checks
Qualifications
- Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) (preferred)
- Certified Zoning Official (CZO) or Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) through the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials (VAZO) (preferred)
- Knowledge of planning and land use in Virginia (desirable)
- Customer service focused
- Excellent writing, presentation, and analytical skills
- Strong facilitation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, applicants, the public, as well as elected and appointed officials
- Ability to meet deadlines and maintain product quality while managing multiple assignments
