Senior Planner-Zoning Administration

Loudoun County, Virginia’s Department of Planning and Zoning is recruiting a Senior Planner in the Zoning Administration division. About the role

As a member of the Zoning Administration team, you will work closely with applicants, the Planning Commission, the Board of Supervisors, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Zoning Ordinance Committee, staff from a variety of County agencies, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to major economic development projects
• Work with potential clients to understand the Zoning Ordinance
• Review a variety of land development applications for zoning conformance
• Research and prepare zoning determination letters
• Process variance and appeal applications
• Serve as project manager in the preparation and processing of Zoning Ordinance amendments
• Participate in other special projects
• Assist other staff with the preparation and review of work products

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field; five (5) years of related work experience
• OR Master's degree in Planning, Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related field; three (3) years of related work experience
• OR equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of driving record, credit, and criminal background checks

Qualifications

• Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) (preferred)
• Certified Zoning Official (CZO) or Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) through the Virginia Association of Zoning Officials (VAZO) (preferred)
• Knowledge of planning and land use in Virginia (desirable)
• Customer service focused
• Excellent writing, presentation, and analytical skills
• Strong facilitation and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, applicants, the public, as well as elected and appointed officials
• Ability to meet deadlines and maintain product quality while managing multiple assignments
