Senior Piping Stress Engineer 1 - Nuclear

Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline performs evaluations for piping systems in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other applicable codes. Specialty topics include:

Responsibilities

  • Provides senior-level technical support by performing complex engineering tasks such as preparing and reviewing calculations and designs.
  • Prepares and completes discipline engineering designs responsive to project needs.
  • Monitors assigned staff to ensure requirements are met.
  • Prepares and reviews complex calculations and designs for piping systems.
  • Reviews simple system/structural designs and prepares complex system designs.
  • Prepares documented design input for drawing production (e.g., P&IDs and Master Diagrams).
  • Performs engineering review of drawings.
  • Prepares and reviews equipment and material specifications.
  • Prepares bid evaluations for systems and larger components.
  • Performs calculations to support economic evaluations.
  • Solicits data from vendors.
  • Prepares and reviews simple reports/studies.
  • Develops single-discipline/simple-scope project budgets, schedules, and work plans.
  • Monitors own work to ensure completion within budget and on schedule.
  • Provides single-discipline input to simple proposals.
  • Uses effective written and oral communication skills to convey information to project team members and managers.
  • Presents technical information clearly and concisely in deliverables.
  • Communicates clearly in client meetings and summarizes meeting notes.
  • Leads others in using modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Directs automation and process-improvement work, including automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation.
  • Oversees engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.

Specialty evaluations include vibration monitoring and analysis, hydraulic transients, thermal stratification effects, operability evaluations, hydrodynamic loads, pipe rupture evaluations, flow accelerated corrosion (FAC), microbiological induced corrosion (MIC), and pipe flaw evaluations.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, with emphasis in solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, and finite element analysis.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.1 and ASME B&PV Section III piping codes.
  • Knowledge of the design, selection, and application of pipe supporting elements.
  • Working knowledge of commercially available piping products and their application.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Skills

  • P.E. license (valued but not required).
  • Experience with AutoPIPE or PIPESTRESS software (valued but not required).
  • Knowledge of gas dynamics and hydraulic transients (valued but not required).
  • Knowledge of pipe condition assessment (valued but not required).
  • Experience with ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical ADP (valued but not required).
  • Ability to navigate a 3D CAD model (valued but not required).
  • Additional learning or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields (valued but not required).

Pay

Compensation range: $84,762 - $129,498. Eligible positions include a base salary or hourly rate, comprehensive benefits package, and potential yearly discretionary bonus.

Schedule

Hybrid work schedule requiring in-office work 3 days per week.
