About the role
The Senior Physician Assistant provides high quality, efficient, team-based patient-focused care under the direction of a supervising physician. Responsibilities may include managing patients in various settings such as the office, hospital, emergency department, and perioperative areas. The role may involve first assisting in surgeries, facilitating on-call responsibilities, and mentoring less experienced Physician Assistants.
Responsibilities
- Examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles medical data.
- Administers or orders diagnostic tests and interprets results.
- Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care.
- Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in continuity of care.
- Instructs and counsels patients on compliance with prescribed therapies, emotional health, and health maintenance.
- May facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges; first assist in surgeries; round on inpatients; perform admission evaluations; provide pre- and post-operative education; assist in surgical procedures; manage post-operative care; and facilitate patient discharge.
- Collaborates on performance improvement activities with the supervising physician, manager, and other department members.
Qualifications
- Minimum three (3) years previous experience as a Physician Assistant in the last five (5) years.
- Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program.
- Hold a Physician Assistant License (California), National Provider Identifier, and Physician Assistant National Certificate.
- Have Basic Life Support certification.
- May require a Fluoroscopy Permit depending on the specialty area.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Additional Requirements
- Advanced Certification in specialty area, preferred.
- Fluoroscopy Permit required, or must be obtained within 18 months from the date of hire in Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, and Radiation Oncology only.
