Senior Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company regulations. Responsible for operating pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Coaches pharmacy technicians and cashiers in system operations and cash register use.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in performing Pharmacy Department duties according to Company policies and procedures.
• Operate pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring accuracy.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs; verify medicine correctness and check for interactions.
• Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
• Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Quality Improvement Program policies.
• Adhere to the Walgreen Co. Good Faith Dispensing policy during all prescription dispensing activities.
• Register related sales on assigned cash register, handle cash, and assist customers in locating OTC products.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services efficiently and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
• Lead Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
• Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques and file claims for inventory discrepancies.
• Assist in analyzing and improving pharmacy financial, customer service, and inventory performance data.
• May assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples.
• Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community through outreach and detailing.
• Maintain the Pharmacy Department’s cleanliness, neatness, and adequate supply levels.
• Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers on correct use of processes and tools to drive efficiency.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures; maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
• Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.

Training & Personal Development

• Maintain PTCB certification through designated training programs and/or state-required certification/registration.
• Attend training and complete PPLs requested by management; acquire continuing education credits.
• Maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including staying updated on news and developments.

Requirements

• PTCB certification (except in Puerto Rico).
• One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (exceptions apply).

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Basic math skills (counting, measuring, and weighing medications).
• Basic PC skills (e.g., starting/shutting down a computer, using a mouse, switching between programs, printing).
• Knowledge of store inventory control.

Pay

Salary Range: $17.50 - $21.00 / Hourly
