Senior Personnel Specialist, Benefits and New Employee Experience
What Will I Be Doing?
In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert on benefits administration and onboarding transactions, providing guidance on complex personnel, payroll, and benefits matters while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and bargaining unit provisions. The position is responsible for overseeing complex benefits-related documents and transactions, including health, dental, vision, FlexElect, CoBen, and COBRA, as well as researching and resolving benefits and payroll issues in coordination with internal stakeholders, control agencies, and benefit providers. You will also coordinate new employee onboarding activities and help ensure employees and hiring managers receive timely, accurate, and professional support.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with various control agencies such as the State Controller’s Office (SCO), California Department of Human Resources (CalHR), California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and Covered California staff
- Demonstrated expertise interpreting and applying complex laws, rules, regulations, bargaining unit provisions, and control agency directives
- Strong customer service skills
- Experience serving as a lead or subject-matter expert
- Skill in benefit administration across multiple bargaining units
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, initiative, and accuracy performing tasks

Pay
Salary: $5,663.00 - $7,097.00 per Month
Schedule
This is a 12-month limited term position, which may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.
