About the Department
The Department of State Hospitals-Napa, Personnel Office is recruiting to fill a permanent, full-time Senior Personnel Specialist vacancy. Napa State Hospital, founded in 1875, is the only state hospital in Northern California for persons struggling with severe mental illness. Classified as a low to moderate security facility, the hospital has a bed capacity to treat up to 1,362 patients on an attractive campus with treatment units located on 138 acres. Staff is dedicated to delivering high-quality, cost-effective, professional services and specialized programs in an environment that promotes continuous improvements in treatment for individuals with mental disabilities.

About the Role
Applicants will serve as the expert staff resource responsible for the most difficult and complex personnel and payroll issues. Functions as the lead to Personnel Specialists and assists in the monitoring and review of workload to ensure transactions are completed timely and accurately. Must demonstrate the ability to apply State laws, departmental and control agency rules and regulations, and collective bargaining agreement provisions pertaining to a variety of personnel transactions in the areas of personnel record keeping, certification, payroll, and personnel documents processing.
Responsibilities
- Process personnel documentation into the computer and advise on benefits.
- Interpret and use job-related reference material.
- Apply State laws, departmental and control agency rules, and collective bargaining agreement provisions to personnel transactions.
- Lead and monitor the workload of Personnel Specialists to ensure timely and accurate completion of transactions.
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Punctuality, good attendance, and a positive attitude.
- Computer skills are desirable.
- Review and meet the minimum qualifications and pass the Senior Personnel Specialist examination on the CalCareers website.

Pay
$5,663.00 - $7,097.00 monthly. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Eligible for an annual payment up to $4,800, payable upon meeting the designated criteria as stated in Pay Differential 240.
