The Senior Payroll Coordinator will be responsible for all payroll-related functions and provide support for all payroll-related needs within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Full end-to-end payroll processing to ensure accurate wage payments to exempt and non-exempt staff
  • Process attendance records and other documents (e.g., W-2 and tax forms)
  • Check payroll information for accuracy and ensure all relevant paperwork is in order
  • Coordinate with HR about changes in payroll (e.g., terminations, new hires)
  • Oversee electronic payments and distribution of payroll checks
  • Process other financial compensations or deductions (e.g., annual bonuses, severance pay, taxes, worker’s compensation)
  • Answer payroll-related questions from employees
  • Interact with internal and external auditors; provide access to payroll and related records as required
  • Maintain records for annual worker’s compensation audits
  • Audit and maintain sick/annual leave records for all eligible employees
  • Compile and maintain data necessary to calculate and process payments for annual/sick leave payoff upon termination
  • Process termination documents and final checks
  • Sort, prioritize, review for accuracy, and process incoming payroll/personnel documents
  • Complete calendar year-end processing of payroll, including supplemental payrolls, W-2, and other tax forms

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 4+ years of payroll experience
  • Hands-on experience with payroll software/HRIS; Lawson and Kronos system experience preferred
  • Experience in Microsoft tools required: Outlook, Word, Excel

Skills

  • Ability to provide accurate and efficient service under the stress of constant deadlines
  • Knowledge of high-volume, multi-state payroll systems, processes, and procedures
  • Knowledge of public institution personnel/payroll practices and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of payroll documentation procedures and requirements
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems
  • Knowledge of federal and state tax laws
  • Ability to understand and process complex paperwork
  • Knowledge of procedures and standards for check processing
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to audit and maintain financial records
