Senior Payroll Analyst
About the Role
MDVIP is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Analyst to join our growing team. This role is responsible for the accurate and timely administration of multi-state payroll operations while serving as a subject matter expert in payroll compliance, reporting, audits, and process optimization. The Senior Payroll Analyst will partner closely with Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, and external vendors to ensure payroll accuracy, strengthen internal controls, drive operational efficiencies, and enhance the overall employee experience.
The ideal candidate possesses deep knowledge of payroll regulations, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to identify trends, solve complex payroll issues, and recommend scalable solutions in a dynamic business environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end processing of semi-monthly payroll for a multi-state employee population, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Perform advanced payroll audits, reconciliations, and variance analyses to identify discrepancies and ensure payroll accuracy.
- Analyze payroll data and trends, providing actionable insights and recommendations to HR, Finance, and leadership teams.
- Serve as the primary payroll subject matter expert for complex payroll matters, tax issues, system configurations, and compliance questions.
- Manage payroll-related projects, including system enhancements, implementations, process improvements, and testing initiatives.
- Develop, maintain, and improve payroll controls, policies, procedures, and documentation to support operational excellence and compliance.
- Partner with Accounting and Finance teams on payroll accruals, general ledger reconciliations, labor reporting, and month-end close activities.
- Review and validate employee transactions, including new hires, terminations, promotions, bonus payments, commissions, stock transactions, and retroactive adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, taxation requirements, ACA reporting, garnishments, and other regulatory requirements.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and implementing corrective actions when needed.
- Lead year-end payroll activities, including W-2 administration, tax reporting, and compliance filings.
- Create and maintain payroll dashboards, reports, and metrics to support business decision-making.
- Mentor junior payroll team members and provide guidance on payroll processes and best practices.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization to improve accuracy, efficiency, and employee satisfaction.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive payroll experience, including experience supporting multi-state payroll operations.
- Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and employment compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing payroll reconciliations, audits, and complex payroll reporting.
- Proficiency with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and timekeeping systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and data analysis.
- Demonstrated experience identifying process improvements and implementing payroll best practices.
- Strong collaboration skills with Finance, Accounting, HR, and external vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly preferred.
- Experience with UKG, Workday, ADP, Paylocity, or similar enterprise payroll systems.
- Experience supporting payroll in a healthcare, PE-backed, or multi-entity organization.
- Experience with payroll system implementations, integrations, or optimization initiatives.
- Knowledge of SOX controls, internal audits, and payroll governance practices.
- Experience developing payroll metrics, dashboards, and executive reporting.

Pay
Competitive compensation: attractive base salary complemented by performance-based incentives for eligible roles. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across appropriate US geographic markets.
