Senior Orthopedic Tehnician

About the role

The Senior Orthopedic Technician provides advanced orthopedic technical support within a Level 1 Trauma Center, delivering specialized care to patients with acute, traumatic, and complex musculoskeletal injuries. Working closely with orthopedic surgeons, physicians, residents, and interdisciplinary care teams, this role supports the evaluation, treatment, and recovery of patients across inpatient acute care settings.

Responsibilities

This position performs advanced orthopedic procedures, including the application and removal of casts and splints, traction setup and management, fracture stabilization, bedside orthopedic care, and other specialized interventions within scope of practice. The Senior Orthopedic Technician responds to orthopedic emergencies with physicians and serves as a trusted clinical resource, delivering evidence-based, compassionate care in a fast-paced academic medical center.

In addition to direct patient care, the Senior Orthopedic Technician supports daily cast room operations by maintaining accurate electronic medical record documentation, managing orthopedic supplies and inventory, and promoting efficient clinical workflows. This role also contributes to the education and development of orthopedic residents, provides guidance to volunteers, and fosters a collaborative environment focused on clinical excellence, continuous learning, and exceptional patient outcomes.

Requirements

• Valid National Orthopedic Technologist Certification (NABCOT or ASOP)
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
• Minimum education satisfied through attainment of the required licensure/certification
• Two (2) years of recent technical Orthopedic experience
• Skill and ability to perform functions commensurate with training and experience as an Orthopedic Tech
• Knowledge and ability to apply sterile technique, including wrapping and autoclaving of surgical instruments
• Knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding sufficient to assist with identifying services performed or coordination of care
• Knowledge of practices and protocols related to medical office procedures
• Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, health care providers, and insurance company representatives
• Ability to accurately read/translate physician orders to ensure accurate completion
• Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, and guidelines governing medical records; confidentiality, privacy, and provision to others, including HIPAA

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of 1 year of experience in an inpatient hospital setting.

Pay

Salary or Pay Range: $35.24 - $43.77, Salary Frequency: Hourly, Salary Grade: 147
