Senior Orthopedic Technician - Orthopedics (Medica Center)
About the role
The Senior Orthopedic Technician at Medica Center is responsible for assisting physicians with reduction of fractures and traction, providing patient education on proper care of casts, splints, dressings, and wound care, and assisting in the Radiology department. This position requires a combination of technical skills and excellent interpersonal abilities.
Responsibilities
- Assists physicians with reduction of fractures and traction
- Provides education to patients on proper care of casts, splints, dressings, and wound care
- Assists in Radiology department when needed to develop film and escort patients to and from exam rooms
- Ensures accurate patient charges and charts treatment in appropriate patient records
- Maintains proper inventory for cast room materials and orders supplies
- Initiates opportunities for process improvement and contributes to meeting department targets for quality and safety
Requirements
- Two years experience as orthopedic technician
- One year experience in casting/bracing
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)
- ROT - Registered Orthopedic Technologist (ASOP)
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent education
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language
- Knowledgeable of Advanced Beneficiary Notices, insurance and authorizations
- Knowledge of aseptic technique
- Independence and judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, patients and their families
- Strong time management skills
- Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision
- Supportive and engaging environment enhancing the quality of life for patients
