About the role

The Senior Oracle Database Administrator will build, support, administer, and sustain a clustered-server database platform hosted in an enterprise IT environment. In this role, you will provide technical support for incident response, service degradations, outages, and other service interruptions.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate hardware and software problems related to the database-hosting infrastructure and perform corrective actions
  • Architect, design, engineer, and document database servers and associated infrastructure in clustered, stand-alone, and/or appliance-hosted configurations to fulfill mission requirements, service specifications, and cyber security mandates
  • Implement robust backup, restoration, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Monitor, fine-tune, and optimize database performance for minimal downtime and maximum efficiency
  • Establish and enforce stringent database security protocols and access controls
  • Collaborate closely with application development teams to design and optimize Oracle databases
  • Offer expertise in writing, tuning, and troubleshooting complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and ETL processes
  • Develop, execute, and oversee data migration initiatives when required
  • Develop and maintain advanced automation scripts for streamlined database provisioning and management
  • Enhance monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve database issues
  • Spearhead scalability and high availability efforts for Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, and other cloud-based databases while managing cloud resources and optimizing cost-effectiveness
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation detailing database configurations, procedures, and best practices
  • Regularly generate performance and usage reports to support informed decision-making
  • Drive problem resolution and root cause analysis across the technology stack
  • Participate in the resolution of database availability, capacity, and performance issues
  • Participate in infrastructure and organizational initiatives across multiple IT disciplines
  • Sustain fleet of physical and virtual database-hosting servers running a mix of operating systems (Open Systems and Windows Systems) in multiple network environments
  • Perform daily operations, onsite support, and on-call support for all aspects of database architecture, database platforms, and database management software
  • Work with original equipment manufacturers and/or third-party vendors to resolve performance degradations and outages
  • Support and participate in projects relating to the move of systems and services to modernized hosting environments and Cloud capabilities
  • Provide expert advice on configuring database systems to meet environment and boundary requirements
  • Customize services to meet new performance goals
  • Install, configure, maintain, and optimize Oracle database systems to ensure high performance, security, and availability
  • Design and implement database schemas, monitor database health, and perform routine backups and recovery operations to safeguard mission-critical data
  • Troubleshoot database-related issues, manage user access and permissions, and optimize queries to enhance system performance
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards while staying current on updates, patches, and advancements in Oracle technologies

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • B.S. in a related field and 10+ years of database administration experience, including experience with Oracle databases
  • DoD 8140 certified at the IAT-I level (A+, CND, or Network+ Certification)
  • Proficiency in managing a diverse range of databases, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Azure Data Factory
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into database structure
  • Strong grasp of advanced database security practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience building and maintaining Content Management Platforms
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Synapse Analytics, Azure Cache for Redis, Azure Table Storage, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery
  • Mastery of scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation
  • Experience with creating and formulating workflows

  • ITIL v4 Certification
