About the role
RapidScale is seeking a Senior or Lead Cloud VMware Engineer to support the stability and scalability of both domestic and international data centers. This role focuses on VMware-based virtualization and core infrastructure technologies, ensuring the health, performance, and reliability of RapidScale's managed cloud environments.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintain cloud infrastructure across compute, storage, networking, virtualization, backup, and monitoring systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues and escalations, minimizing customer impact
- Drive improvements in system performance, reliability, and operational efficiency
- Partner with Architecture, Security, and Engineering teams to implement enhancements and maintain compliance
- Develop and maintain documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
- Ensure effective monitoring and alerting across infrastructure components
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation supporting customer environments
Requirements
- Senior VMware Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 4 years' experience in a related field. Alternatively, a master's degree and 2 years' experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or 8 years' experience in a related field
- Lead VMware Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 6 years' experience in a related field. Alternatively, a master's degree and 4 years' experience; a Ph.D. and 1 year of experience; or 10 years' experience in a related field
- Strong experience with VMware-based virtualization environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and manage escalations in high-availability environments
- Experience performing root cause analysis and driving issue resolution
- Willingness to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with VMware technologies such as vSAN, NSX or NSX-T, and vCloud Director
- Familiarity with VMware ecosystem tools (Aria Suite, SRM, Tanzu)
- Experience with Cisco UCS infrastructure
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (VLANs, LACP)
- Experience with scripting or automation (PowerShell, PowerCLI)
- Familiarity with public cloud environments (Azure, AWS) and VMware cloud solutions (AVS, VMC, Azure AVD)
- Experience in managed services or enterprise customer environments
- Experience handling Sev-1 incidents and delivering root cause analysis
Pay
USD 101,500.00 - 169,100.00 per year
Schedule
The position may be eligible for a 24x7 on-call rotation supporting customer environments.
