Senior Operations Manager

What You’ll Do

  • Lead transformer field operations across the assigned region, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Supervise job planning activities including labor coordination, material procurement, and subcontractor management.
  • Support the sales team by providing technical insight during project scoping and quotation phases.
  • Work directly with field crews, project managers, and customers to ensure seamless coordination and execution.
  • Ensure full compliance with safety standards including OSHA, NFPA, and RMS Energy protocols on every job site.
  • Allocate and manage test equipment, oil processing rigs, and other tooling for field work.
  • Oversee and, when needed, directly supervise field activities such as transformer installation, oil processing, field assembly, and transformer testing.
  • Coverage protection system activities involving relays and controls.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of JSAs, field reports, safety checklists, and crew timesheets.
  • Maintain company vehicles and service equipment to meet operational standards.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and reinforce accountability in all field operations.
  • Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas.

The Experience We’re Looking For

  • 6+ years of experience in transformer operations or field service leadership.
  • In-depth knowledge of transformer systems, oil processing, and electrical apparatus.
  • Familiarity with substation and power system equipment, including switchgear and circuit breakers.
  • Understanding of transmission and distribution systems, protection relays, and control systems.
  • Proven ability to lead crews and manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of NETA, IEEE, NFPA, and OSHA standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% across the continental U.S.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug tests.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, at heights over 100 feet, in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery.
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs. and performing extended physical activity.
  • Must have good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe and effective communication in noisy environments.

Bonus Points

  • For a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent hands-on field experience.
  • Previous knowledge of power transformer testing, diagnostics, and field assembly.
  • Experience managing union and non-union field crews.
  • Familiarity with project estimating and customer interface during the bid process.
  • Completion of technical school, trade certifications, or industry-recognized safety training.
