About the role
The Sr. Mold Technician performs routine maintenance on plastic injection molds both in the press and on the bench under the direct supervision of a Lead Technician. This role is 100% onsite at our Salt Lake City, UT manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety practices.
- Highlight safety risks and work with the Lead Technician and Supervisor to implement solutions to new risks.
- Perform routine maintenance on plastic injection molds in the press and on the bench.
- Disassemble, visually inspecting, cleaning, organizing, and reassembling complex high cavitation tooling.
- Ensure all equipment is working properly.
- Shop awareness and cleanliness.
- Participate in activities to ensure departmental compliance to all Federal, State, Local and Company regulatory requirements.
- Work on special projects as they arise as directed.
- Actively demonstrate support through interactions with solid communication skills, attitude, dedication, commitment, respect, pride and trust.
- Electrical skills (testing/troubleshooting).
- Stoning/polishing mold components.
- Understand torque settings.
- Understand between using Standard vs Metric.
- Demonstrate machining skills (grinder, lathe, mill).
- Measure/fitting stack heights.
- Ability to set/time unwinds.
- Fitting mold components.
- Hot Runner skills (clean, bake, wire).
- Ability to start working independently.
- Ability to train/oversee new hires starting from Mold I and IIBasic shop math skills.
- Ability to use proper measurement techniques with (micrometer, calipers, dial indicator).
- Complete shop paperwork and documentation using correct terminology (FA, tool workorder).
- Follow all regulatory requirements e.g. Current Good Manufacturing and Documentation Practices.
- Perform these and other duties as necessary or required, the inclusion of which will not alter the basic scope of the position.
Qualifications
- Having a mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge and understanding of basic shop tools and hand tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and basic electrical systems.
- Familiarity with high cavitation tools.
- Prototype mold manufacturing and/or maintenance desired, but not required.
- Knowledge and understand mechanics and terminology of a mold and their functions.
- Knowledge and understand mechanics and terminology of an injection molding machine.
- Knowledge and understanding of surface finish and how they are achieved.
- Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and servo systems.
- Understanding of Hot Runner systems.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of tool repair and maintenance experience.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous injection molding or tooling experience is required.
