About the Role

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) - Dermatology is a field-based scientific and clinical expert on current and future Johnson & Johnson Innovative products. This role serves as a strategic scientific partner, integrating multiple internal and external data sources to inform medical engagement, patient care, and territory strategy. The Senior MSL develops and enhances professional relationships with key thought leaders and healthcare provider teams, providing fair, balanced, objective, and non-promotional scientific information and education.

This position is based in the Northern New Jersey territory and focuses on Immunology, a therapeutic area leading the development of transformational medicines for immunological disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a scientific engagement plan for the territory that aligns with Medical Affairs strategy, prioritized medical objectives, and approved core medical assets.
  • Engage in high-quality, two-way scientific exchange with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) to serve as a resource, understand their perspectives, and identify trends, unmet needs, and educational gaps.
  • Identify and cultivate strong professional relationships with community and academic HCPs/KOLs to advance scientific credibility.
  • Utilize insights and MSL tools to develop a strategic approach for customer engagements, proactively uncovering gaps, risks, and opportunities to enhance medical impact.
  • Leverage AI tools and insights to enhance decision-making, streamline processes, and improve efficiency across core responsibilities.
  • Identify provider educational needs and address them with tailored responses, framing data in a compelling, scientifically balanced, and medically appropriate manner.
  • Deliver relevant scientific data tailored to HCP needs through clear and effective dialogue, translating complex clinical evidence into meaningful scientific discussions.
  • Collect and submit high-quality actionable insights aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities.
  • Provide point-of-contact support to investigators and internal partners for both company-sponsored and investigator-initiated studies.
  • Respond to unsolicited research/clinical inquiries from external stakeholders with scientifically sound, objective, and compliant information.
  • Execute the current Medical Affairs strategy and MSL priorities while balancing short-term execution with longer-term medical objectives.
  • Compliantly collaborate with internal stakeholders, including MSL field partners, R&D, Medical Affairs, clinical operations, and role-defined interactions with Sales and Marketing.
  • Demonstrate strong scientific acumen through self-study, journal clubs, educational seminars, congresses, and scientific discussions with peers.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, supporting collaborative One J&J goals at local and national levels.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines, corporate policies, and Medical Affairs SOPs.
  • Develop and implement a performance and development plan in collaboration with the direct manager, including leadership projects that contribute to medical planning and organizational capabilities.
  • Perform all administrative requirements in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner (e.g., expense reports, documentation of activities).

Requirements

  • A Doctorate-level degree or equivalent experience is required (e.g., PharmD, PhD, MD, Advanced Practice Providers). Post-graduate experience is required for doctoral-level candidates, with preference for therapeutic clinical experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, including demonstrated success as an MSL.
  • Strong scientific/therapeutic expertise with skills in research, data analysis, clinical expertise, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to support a defined territory with up to 70% travel, including in-territory visits and attendance at internal meetings, external congresses, and related events.
  • Must hold a valid US Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Residency/fellowship preferred.
  • Knowledge or experience in the therapeutic area (Dermatology/Immunology).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CoPilot, and remote technologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning emerging technologies, such as AI.
  • Related clinical, research, or pharma work experience.

Pay

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $137,000.00 - $235,750.00.

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)), as well as the long-term incentive program.

Benefits

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, employees are eligible for the following time-off benefits:

  • Vacation – 120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time – 40 hours per calendar year (48 hours for Colorado residents; 56 hours for Washington residents)
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – 13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal, and Family Time – up to 40 hours per calendar year
  • Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
  • Bereavement Leave – 240 hours for an immediate family member; 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year
  • Caregiver Leave – 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period
  • Volunteer Leave – 32 hours per calendar year
  • Military Spouse Time-Off – 80 hours per calendar year
