About the role

The Senior Medical Assistant Certified- Primary Care position at Houston Methodist Primary Care Group is responsible for providing comprehensive support to primary care providers in managing patients with complex, chronic diseases. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a focus on highly complex cases or in a specialty discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for exams and treatments, ensuring all necessary paperwork and preparations are completed.
  • Assists with diagnostic testing, including drawing blood and performing urinalysis.
  • Administers medications and monitors patient responses.
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team to develop and implement care plans for patients.
  • Ensures patient safety and comfort during medical procedures.
  • Communicates with patients to gather and document medical and social histories.
  • Coordinates patient care across different departments and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate and organized medical records.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.
  • A certification as a Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Knowledge of medical practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and organized medical records.
  • Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Positive and professional demeanor.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $60,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with a day shift schedule.
