About the role
The Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of various material handling equipment, including conveyors, bulk feed systems, sortation systems, and mail sorting machinery, as well as other machines of comparable complexity. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are executed within established timelines, adhere to budgetary limitations, and meet the highest quality standards. A comprehensive understanding of mechanical engineering principles and the ability to drive projects from concept through successful implementation are essential.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and components from concept through production, ensuring compliance with performance requirements and specifications.
- Collaborate with Sales, Product Owners, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate customer and business requirements into detailed equipment designs and manufacturing packages.
- Perform engineering calculations, analyses, and simulations to validate designs, optimize system performance, and support complex mechanized system proposals.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, assembly packages, product manuals, and integration guides.
- Partner closely with Electrical and Controls Engineering teams to support product design, equipment selection, and system integration activities.
- Engage with suppliers and customers to support design reviews, equipment procurement, technical documentation, and project execution using SAP and other engineering tools.
- Analyze operational and engineering data related to system performance, productivity, throughput, and costs to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers while staying current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience designing and developing complex mechanical systems and components, including proficiency with engineering analysis and simulation tools.
- Expertise in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX, and other 3D CAD software for detailed design, modeling, and documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex engineering challenges and implement effective solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage budgets and timelines, identify project risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers while fostering technical development and collaboration within engineering teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to meet the requirements necessary to obtain a U.S. Sensitive Security Clearance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
- Experience with mechanical analysis tools and product lifecycle management.

This role offers a hybrid work setting based in Irving, Texas, with up to 10% domestic travel.
