About the role

The power generation market is growing and evolving, driven by strong capacity demand signals. HDR's national Power Generation team is poised for significant growth and is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the development, contracting, and implementation of natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership of the project mechanical team
  • Coordination with other engineering disciplines
  • Monitoring and communication of project status
  • Providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level
  • Developing construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates
  • Designing power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects

Requirements

  • Significant experience with utility-scale power generation systems and equipment
  • Proven ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design
  • Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise
  • Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Able to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
  • Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation
  • Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm
  • Blend of design and owner’s engineer projects in the fossil power industry
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
  • Proficiency in working within established schedules and budgets

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends on skills, experience, education, and geographical location. The targeted salary range is $108,661 - $204,250.

Schedule

This is a Full-time Regular position.
