About the role

The power generation market is growing and evolving due to strong capacity demand signals. HDR's national Power Generation team is poised for significant growth and is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our clients in developing, contracting, and implementing natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the project mechanical team
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines
  • Monitor and communicate project status
  • Provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level
  • Develop construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates
  • Design simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design
  • Significant experience with utility-scale power generation systems and equipment
  • Proven ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects
  • Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects
  • Able to handle multiple concurrent assignments
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Able to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
  • Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget

Preferred Qualifications

  • Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise
  • Experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation
  • Desired experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Able to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs
  • Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. The targeted salary range for this position (based on experience and location) is $108,661 - $204,250.

Schedule

This is a Full-time Employee position.
