Senior Mechanical Estimator - HVAC, Plumbing & Fire Protection

About the role

The Senior Estimator at Haskell plays a crucial role in developing accurate, detailed construction cost estimates at various design stages. This position involves leading and training estimating personnel, adhering to Preconstruction standards and processes, and collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Developing accurate, detailed construction cost estimates at progressive design stages
• Developing associated scope of work clarifications
• Identifying risk items and the associated order of magnitude
• Aiding in Preconstruction resource management
• Aiding in the development and utilization of Preconstruction processes, standards, and tools
• Aiding the Pricing Lead and participating in estimate review meetings
• Contributing to cost savings exercises
• Aiding in the development of bid packages
• Aiding with the project construction budget
• Aiding with Preconstruction-Operations Turnover Meetings
• Aiding with Subcontractor and Vendor relationships
• Aiding with project procurement and buyout
• Collaborating with Preconstruction Leadership
• Collaborating with designers and clients
• Collaborating and assisting the project operations team
• Following project construction costs and market trends
• Participating in Preconstruction software development, maintenance, and historical costs
• Leading and training Estimating personnel
• Traveling as required - 10%-20%

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent with 5 years of estimating experience preferred or 15 years relevant experience in the construction industry
• Experience in HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Mechanical Estimating
• Preparation of quantity surveys and cost estimates with complete knowledge of labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs
• Self-perform experience in Design-Build and CMAR project delivery methods
• Evaluation of building systems for cost effectiveness and constructability
• Strong subcontractor and vendor relationships
• Ability to forecast design and materials at a conceptual level
• Ability to develop a detailed estimate at a conceptual level with minimal design
• Strong understanding of material specifications to make informed recommendations
• Experience in multiple markets including Manufacturing, Consumer Product Goods, Mission Critical, Municipal, Education, Federal, Healthcare, and Water/Wastewater
• Estimating software experience required, including Accubid and Beck Destini Estimator
• Revit/Navisworks, 3D model experience a plus

• Ability to perform ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds
• Good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp
• Visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment, and read application/form information
• Frequent sitting, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and hearing

Skills

• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Proficiency in estimating software (Accubid, Beck Destini Estimator)
• Knowledge of Revit/Navisworks, 3D modeling
• Ability to forecast and develop estimates at conceptual levels
• Understanding of material specifications and market trends
