Senior Mechanical Engineer - York, PA

About the Role

Create mechanical designs, 2D drawings, and 3D models of automation cells, retrofits, and reconfigurations. Construct bills of materials for robots and auxiliary equipment. Provide general mechanical engineering support for field work. Act as technical lead for the mechanical engineering team, overseeing department standards, quality of design, and deliverables.

Responsibilities

• 3D modeling of custom automation equipment, including robotic end-of-arm tools and assorted peripheral/auxiliary material handling equipment
• Modify and adapt existing library components for use on similar or new project applications
• Create mechanical designs according to industry safety standards
• Develop 2D drawings for:
  • Automated production cells
  • Auxiliary equipment
  • Individual parts (manufacturing drawings)
• Process material data in SAP software
• Prepare complete bills of materials for production orders
• Add new materials for custom parts as necessary
• Maintain and update bills of material for delivered equipment
• Submit items and equipment for procurement
• Generate specifications to ensure ENGEL standards
• Participate in project kick-off meetings, design review meetings, factory acceptance tests, training, and other relevant meetings
• Create documentation, including spare parts lists, layouts, and wear items
• Provide technical support to other team members throughout the company
• Assist with project quoting efforts by providing mechanical engineering labor and material estimates
• Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned by a supervisor
• Assist internal Production Assembly and Integration personnel with pre-assembly of new builds and retrofits prior to shipping
• Support cross-functional teams with appropriate documentation and clarification to facilitate proper project workflow

Leadership Responsibilities

• Lead and role model best practices and use of all standards and checkpoints
• Create and maintain ME-specific standards
• Develop peer review and quality check methods
• Guide the ME team on cost-effective design for manufacturing practices
• Assist the team in arranging peer reviews and quality checks
• Identify the need for training modules with the Engineering Manager and assist in creating/facilitating them
• Mentor the team on accurate labor hour estimation and time management skills
• Collaborate on training, standards, and process topics

Communication Responsibilities

• Communicate training requests to the Engineering Manager
• Proactively escalate quality, capacity, and personnel concerns
• Provide feedback for annual performance reviews for the ME team
