About the role

Join us in shaping the future of solar energy by leading the development and support of industry-defining solar tracker components. In this role, you will drive advancements in product vision, innovation, and enhancements, utilizing tools such as CAD, FEA, DFMA, and DFMEA to create next-generation products. You will collaborate with multiple departments and occasionally work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead responses to engineering change requests for assigned parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Conduct root cause analysis, redesign efforts, and testing to address field failures.
  • Provide leadership to other engineers on programs and projects.
  • Drive cross-functional teams to meet program targets with clear direction.
  • Support system-level improvements or modifications to installed products.
  • Represent engineering in developing and managing the product roadmap for assigned products.
  • Incorporate design for manufacturing (DFM) principles in existing or new part development.
  • Report program status across various organizational levels.
  • Generate design review records and required design analysis to support part design.
  • Develop design record documents in compliance with company requirements.
  • Create Design Requirements Documents (DRD) based on Market Requirements Documents (MRD).
  • Plan and interpret component and system tests to validate designs.
  • Mentor developing engineers.
  • Create documents and presentations for stage gate reviews.
  • Review engineering documents, including process design guidelines and manufacturing drawings.
  • Optimize engineering processes for new product development, including strategies and procedures.
  • Develop design concepts using SolidWorks and analyze them using DFMA, FMEA, FEA, etc.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Designers to create detailed CAD models and drawings.
  • Develop timelines, cost estimates, and appraise management of performance to plan.
  • Work with the Quality department to create inspection and test plans for supplier qualification.
  • Assess reliability, safety, performance, and risk of new designs and methodologies.
  • Coordinate and communicate development schedules and design compatibility issues.
  • Oversee testing and theoretical analysis of products to ensure safety and efficacy.
  • Travel to project sites, labs, and suppliers as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience developing mechanical components and systems for new products.
  • 8+ years of experience performing mechanical engineering hand-calculations.
  • 8+ years of design experience with structural components, hardware, gearing, and/or drivetrains.
  • 8+ years of experience utilizing FEA, DFMA, and design for cost in product development.
  • 5+ years of experience using 3D CAD software.
  • 5+ years of experience defining design validation tests.
  • 4+ years working in an environment with Stage Gate Product Development Processes.
  • 2+ years of experience using SolidWorks.
  • 10+ years of experience using Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent communication and team-building skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience in the solar industry.
  • Design and component experience across multiple fabrication methods for steel, aluminum, and polymers.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, smaller company environment.
