About the role

Merrick & Company’s Nuclear Services & Technology team provides full service nuclear design solutions to the federal government (DOE, NNSA, and NIST), nuclear research, and nuclear medicine. Merrick is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Mechanical Engineer to support our operations in our Aiken, SC or Oak Ridge, TN office.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC and Plumbing/Piping systems for a variety of facility projects.
  • Develop design calculations, process flow diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment selection and layout, ductwork and piping sizing and layout.
  • Support project proposals, interdisciplinary coordination, and participate in QA/QC processes.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary coordination, develop calculations, flow diagrams, and specifications, size and layout ductwork, hydronic and plumbing piping systems, lead QA/QC processes, and proficiently calculate and size of mechanical equipment including AHUs, fans, and pumps.
  • Sizes and lays out ductwork and hydronic piping systems.
  • Participate in site inspection and construction administration.
  • Take design direction from senior-level engineers and direct the work of junior engineers and designers.
  • Interface with client contacts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years related experience.
  • Candidate must have their Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Must understand the importance of business development, project management for A-E firms, managing to fee, and demonstrate skills in a multi-discipline teams.
  • Experience interfacing with client contacts.
  • Strong experience with thermal load calculation and energy modeling for mechanical systems.
  • Strong experience in calculating and sizing of mechanical equipment including AHUs, fans, and pumps.
  • Strong experience in sizing and laying out ductwork and hydronic piping systems.

  • US Citizenship is required for client projects.
