Responsibilities

  • Create design solutions for the design development of various reactor structures and components for the Natrium Generation IV Reactor.
  • Develop and maintain design specifications, calculations, load evaluations, and qualification reports in compliance with ASME Section III and related nuclear codes and standards.
  • Prepare engineering design packages, including performing or reviewing design calculations to ensure accuracy and code compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define design requirements, resolve technical issues, and optimize component performance.
  • Interface with internal quality teams, third-party reviewers, and regulatory bodies to support audits, design reviews, and code certification processes.
  • Support material selection, fabrication requirements, inspection criteria, and acceptance standards for Class NF components.
  • Participate in engineering change processes, nonconformance evaluations, and corrective action development as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of ASME Section III revisions, NRC guidance, and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of six years of equipment / component design experience; relevant M.S. degree may be credited as two years of experience.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Deep understanding of structural and seismic design.
  • Experience in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods, and commercial mechanical stress analysis modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker.
  • Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week.
  • Familiarity with CAD, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Working experience with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experienced in ASME Section III nuclear design.
  • Proficient in ANSYS and other mechanical stress analysis tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Knowledge of ASME Section III revisions, NRC guidance, and industry best practices.
