Responsibilities

  • Proficiently work with CAD drawings and prepare/review load calculations.
  • Edit specifications to align with project requirements and develop equipment room sizes during Schematic Design (SD) and Design Development (DD) phases.
  • Select and schedule equipment, and meet with vendors to determine specification requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (MEP/FP, Architecture, Structural, etc.).
  • Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and solve installation problems.
  • Apply risk management procedures to minimize exposure to problems for both EXP and the client.
  • Manage the design process within available hours in the work plan and deliver appropriate documentation for SD, DD, and Construction Document (CD) phases.
  • Work with Project Coordinators (PC), Project Managers (PM), and clients to meet scheduled milestones across multiple projects.
  • Manage and deliver revisions (ASIs, etc.) and sketches according to proper numbering conventions.
  • Edit and develop scope of work narratives (e.g., SD narrative, basis of design).
  • Understand specific engineering requirements for applications within the market sector and provide relevant existing EXP details for projects.
  • Direct and mentor Designer-level staff on their daily responsibilities.
  • Perform at a "responsible charge" level to meet EXP’s design and quality standards.
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews of all calculations by Designers and provide guidance and mentoring.
  • Determine the content of drawings and specifications for Designers to meet the scope of work.
  • Develop and monitor work plans in conjunction with other Project Managers.
  • Review code-related items with Designers to ensure compliance.
  • Manage work plans and deliverables on multiple projects within budgeted hours.
  • Write studies, reports, and sequences of operations for systems on projects (e.g., AHUs, CHW, and HW systems).
  • Understand and apply concepts of CHW, HW, WSHP, variable & constant flow systems, air-side systems (CV, VAV), and hydronic systems (hot, chilled, condenser, steam).
  • Apply advanced psychometrics to every project and perform equipment selection and analysis (e.g., chillers, boilers, air terminals, cooling towers, air valves, heap filters, DX equipment, and water source heat pumps).
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of humid climate design risks and total energy concepts.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of project management and mechanical design experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Degree in engineering.
  • Strong leadership skills and excellent communication capabilities.
  • Preferred experience in data center, mission critical, and/or telecom industries.
  • Building design experience is required.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $150,000 to $170,000. Actual compensation is based on factors such as skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and work location. This may vary in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
