Senior Mechanical Engineer - CMTA Energy Solutions

About the role
The Energy Solutions division of CMTA is seeking an experienced Engineer to help expand our reach in new markets. The successful candidate is typically a self-motivated individual who thrives on helping clients and has the technical background to lead all phases of our work. Although this position is for the performance contracting division, engineers with strong backgrounds in HVAC design and commissioning can easily transition to become valuable team members within our Energy Solutions group.
Responsibilities
- Introduce and explain performance contracting to potential clients, identifying opportunities where CMTA’s solutions can provide long-term value.
- Articulate how and why CMTA is unique in our approach to performance contracting, reinforcing our value proposition in both technical and financial terms.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to foster repeat business, referrals, and long-term partnerships.
- Participate in business development efforts including client meetings, industry events, and proposal development.
- Lead the development phase including site visits, audits, and energy calculations.
- Direct the engineering design team in producing drawings and specifications.
- Direct the bidding process to ensure quality and competitive outcomes.
- Collaborate with the client to finalize the performance contract.
- Work with the construction manager to ensure a smooth construction period.
- Direct the commissioning process to validate performance.
- Support the client through the warranty phase as needed.
- Work with our Measurement & Verification (M&V) professional to develop the first-year M&V report.
- Demonstrate knowledge of state-specific K-12 design-build procurement processes, ensuring alignment with state and district requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience with an Energy Services company OR a consulting engineering/commissioning firm.
- Undergraduate degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

Pay
- Fairfax VA, MA, MD & CA: $115,000 - $150,000 base salary range. Eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.
- Richmond VA: $100,000 - $130,000 base salary range. Eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.
Bonus eligibility and payout are determined by role, individual performance, and company performance, and are not guaranteed.
