Senior Mechanical Engineer-Aviation
About the role
Burns Engineering is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Aviation team in Philadelphia, PA or New York City, NY. As a key member of our team, you will perform technical activities on assigned projects, ensuring adherence to discipline technical policies and procedures. You will participate in the production of technical studies, investigations, and designs, developing complex engineering solutions with guidance from senior staff and making independent decisions for low to moderate complexity challenges.
Responsibilities
- Ensure company technical policies and procedures are followed during project execution.
- Assist in developing design approaches and concepts; seek guidance from senior technical staff as needed.
- Provide discipline-specific engineering for systems and designs of low to moderate complexity.
- Delegate work tasks, collaborate with subordinate staff, and monitor/review delegated work for accuracy.
- Assist in executing technical training programs for design staff.
- Support the development of proposals and client presentations.
- Provide feedback to Project Managers for performance evaluations.
- Coordinate project designs with other disciplines, including attending project meetings.
- Perform engineering studies, design analyses, and assist in establishing budgets, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Review shop drawings, record changes, and communicate with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives.
- Conduct on-site inspections during construction and coordinate design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers.
- Use design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
- Actively participate in professional organizations and/or client groups to enhance the firm’s technical reputation.
- Complete assigned work within the allotted time frame and budget.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Informally supervise tasks for CAD Operators, Designers, Junior Associates, Associates, Engineers, and Engineer IIs at the direction of the Project Manager.
Qualifications
- Professionally Licensed Engineer with a Bachelor’s (B.S.) in Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
- Experience with consulting firms and leading design projects, including overseeing design tasks.
- Professional Engineering License required.
