ThinKom Solutions, Inc. · Hawthorne, CA · 3 wk ago
On-siteEngineering$100k–$140k/yrFull-time

At ThinKom, we don’t just build antennas—we design high-performance, next-generation mechanical systems that connect the world across air, land, sea, and space. From Inflight Connectivity (IFC) to High-Power Microwave (HPM) systems to Defense SATCOM, our technology operates in some of the world’s most demanding environments. We’re looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who loves hands-on engineering, thrives on solving hard hardware problems, and wants to see their designs go from napkin sketch to physical deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Create high-precision mechanical components, enclosures, and positioner drive assemblies using 3D CAD (Creo).
  • Act as the primary mechanical engineering lead on select flagship projects while contributing technical expertise across integrated product teams.
  • Build prototypes, perform root-cause troubleshooting, and support component- and system-level qualification testing.
  • Conduct structural, thermal, and dynamic analyses (FEA) to ensure systems withstand extreme environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with internal production teams and external suppliers to optimize for manufacturability (DFM/DFA), maintainability, and cost.
  • Guide and inspire junior engineers, fostering a strong culture of technical rigor and continuous growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical product design and hardware development.
  • Strong 3D CAD modeling skills (Creo preferred).
  • Deep understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, configuration management, and Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA).
  • U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (Green Card holder) required due to U.S. Government contracts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical design of precision positioner drive systems, gear trains, or motion control hardware.
  • Hands-on Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural, thermal, vibration, and dynamic shock conditions.
  • Experience with composite structures, advanced materials, and surface treatments/coatings.
  • Familiarity with diverse manufacturing processes: machining, casting, injection molding, and additive manufacturing.

What Success Looks Like

  • You are a creative problem solver who approaches complex physical constraints with clarity and logic.
  • You are an effective communicator who can pitch a complex design trade-off to engineers and business stakeholders alike.
  • You are collaborative by default, building strong bridges with manufacturing, suppliers, and customer teams.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Typical office, CAD workstation, and lab/manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to lift or move prototype equipment up to 50 lbs on occasion.
  • Comfortable working near testing setups that may involve elevated noise levels, chemicals, or electromagnetic energy.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% for vendor visits, customer reviews, or off-site testing.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, Vision
  • Disability, Life
  • 401k Matching (4%)
  • PTO, paid Holidays
  • Bonus Plan
