About the role

Therma is seeking a highly motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer with 8+ years of experience in the HVAC industry. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader who excels in mentoring engineers, overseeing projects, and engaging directly with clients to deliver high-quality solutions. This role encompasses every phase of the design-build project process, from initial design to construction administration support. You will oversee the entire design process, coordinate efforts across multiple disciplines (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, civil, structural, controls, general construction, and ownership groups), and contribute to efficient and timely project progress in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design bespoke building mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Perform heating, cooling, and ventilation load calculations.
• Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to engineers, project managers, and project executives to improve product quality, efficiency, and performance.
• Oversee and manage multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery, quality assurance, and budget adherence.
• Interface with clients, architects, and project stakeholders to develop innovative and sustainable mechanical designs.
• Generate, review, and approve technical drawings, submittals, and specifications to ensure compliance with project goals.
• Evaluate project submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs to determine conformance with contract documents and design requirements.
• Research and analyze customer project requirements, specifications, and data to assess feasibility, program application, and maintenance requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve problems, implement solutions, and optimize project outcomes.
• Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in mechanical engineering and energy-efficient building solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and professional development support to the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
• Minimum 8 years of engineering experience as a Mechanical Engineer, preferably in the HVAC design-build environment.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of California and MEOR.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Bluebeam.
• Expert knowledge of California Building Code and Title 24.
• Expert knowledge of ASHRAE guidelines 62.1, 55, and 90.1.
• Expertise in HVAC systems, cooling and heating plants, and MEP design.
• Experience in document technical review and quality control.
• Experience in project coordination and project management.
• Experience in client relations and relationship management.
• Positive attitude, team player, and commitment to achieving a common goal.
• Experience in engineering team development, mentoring, and leadership.
• LEED Certification (preferred).
• Knowledge of HVAC BAS/Controls.
• Expertise in System Basis of Design (BOD) and Sequence of Operation (SOO) development.

Pay

$150,000–$185,000, depending on experience.
