About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to direct and execute mechanical design for mission critical projects. Typical project types include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and various system calculations. This role involves leading concept-level discussions through to the generation of design plans and specifications for permitting and construction. The ideal candidate will also contribute to growing the mechanical expertise within the company through internal training, development of design standards, and oversight of quality control practices.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents.
  • Perform and review airside and hydronic calculations for multiple mechanical systems.
  • Produce and understand hydronic and airflow flow diagrams.
  • Select and specify HVAC equipment.
  • Create detailed sequences of operations (SOO) for mechanical systems.
  • Specify mechanical controls systems.
  • Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
  • Understand local and national construction codes and project specifications.
  • Use Microsoft tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
  • Travel to project sites as required (approximately 10-20% travel).
  • Communicate clearly in both written and spoken forms.
  • Lead other engineers, designers, and modelers, coordinating tasks across multiple teams to execute project delivery.
  • Mentor and train other engineers, designers, and modelers to develop mechanical design knowledge.
  • Work independently while coordinating with senior personnel and other disciplines.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of electrical systems to coordinate mechanical design requirements.
  • Maintain excellent organizational skills, managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus. 2-year degrees and MET degrees with relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in HVAC design, particularly using Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience in electrical design for larger industrial and commercial buildings is preferred; mission critical design experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience developing detailed mechanical calculations and using calculation software.
  • Experience across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals, shop drawings, and field work (e.g., existing condition surveys, site observations, punch lists).
  • Experience leading mechanical design teams and interfacing with clients is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of controls and monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems is a plus.
  • Experience using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred; unlicensed candidates with appropriate experience are welcome to apply.

Location

This position will begin as remote, with plans to transition to a hybrid role as we establish offices in the Austin and Dallas–Fort Worth metro areas.

Pay

Base compensation: $125,000–$350,000 (varies based on education, experience, skills, and location).

Benefits

  • 36-hour standard work week.
  • Hybrid working arrangement.
  • 13 paid holidays.
  • 100% coverage of medical, health, and dental insurance premiums for full-time employees.
  • Subsidized spouse and family insurance premiums.
  • Employer-sponsored life and long-term disability insurance.
  • 401(k) plan with annual safe harbor contribution.
  • Reimbursement of professional licensing costs.
