OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide engineering for the implementation of projects within the automated material handling industry to meet each customer’s unique requirements.
  • Work closely with Project Managers on implementing the full project lifecycle including design drawings and layouts, interfacing with suppliers, developing installation packages, and supporting installation.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities efficiently while meeting project schedules and budgets.
  • Review customer specifications to ensure compliance.
  • Use of AutoCAD software for compilation of drawings.
  • Perform engineering calculations to support design work.
  • Participate in design review and customer review meetings.
  • Conduct site inspections to validate proper installation of equipment (as needed).
  • Support suppliers and subcontractor selections through quotation analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts and ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide mentoring to other team members within the department.
  • Support the continuous improvement of mechanical engineering standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the Mechanical Engineering department.
  • Take ownership of the assigned Mechanical Engineering responsibilities of a project to ensure success.
  • Participation in risk assessment meetings.
  • KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

    • BS Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field or equivalent work experience.
    • 8+ years of relevant experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment and general operational knowledge of distribution centers with a focus on automated warehouse technology.
    • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CET, NiC, HyCAD).
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word and Excel).
    • Must understand industry engineering concepts and practices.
    • Ability to interact with all levels of management, clients, and vendors.
    • Possess and maintain a high degree of safety awareness during the design phase.
    • Technical understanding and primary experience in the processing of projects.
    • Professional experience in a comparable position is desirable.
    • Familiarity with Conveyor/Sortation, Goods-To-Person, AS/RS, AGVs, AMRs, Case & Piece Picking or Palletizing & Depalletizing Systems a plus.

    Work Conditions

    • Sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time will be required.
    • Traveling (minimal) as needed for project support including overnight travel for site visits and installation inspections.
