This role is based in Roseville, CA, where you will join the founding engineers shaping Arista’s new Roseville R&D Lab. You will help design next-generation networking technology alongside some of the industry’s brightest engineers.

This is an on-site role. Remote applicants must be willing to relocate to a commutable distance to the Arista Headquarters in Santa Clara, CA or the Roseville, CA site.

About the Role

This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and is responsible for the mechanical design of next-generation modules or chassis. The role involves addressing challenges such as structure, cooling, EMC, safety, manufacturability, cost, appearance, and tight schedules, all while conforming to a family of existing products.

Responsibilities

  • Explore and implement mechanical design solutions that blend all requirements for new modules or chassis.
  • Use Creo 3D CAD to create designs and provide necessary drawings, critical-to-function dimensions, and 3D files for prototyping and manufacturing.
  • Schedule and manage peer and cross-functional team reviews of your design; participate in reviews of other engineers' designs.
  • Structure bill of materials (BOM), release, and change products using product lifecycle management tools (Agile).
  • Provide 3D models for thermal simulations and PCB design drawings/files to the ECAD design team.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers and PCB layout teams to address placement concerns and check final PCB designs.
  • Work with contract manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers to address DFM (Design for Manufacturability) concerns.
  • Test prototypes in the lab against 3D MCAD designs and debug design issues.
  • Communicate manufacturing issues found in the lab to the CM.
  • Travel to suppliers to troubleshoot issues or expedite builds as required.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings to resolve production sustaining issues.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of experience.
  • Relevant experience in mechanical design of computer/network equipment for data center environments is preferred.
  • Experience with ECO (Engineering Change Order), BOM, and Deviation processes (Agile experience is a plus).
  • Proficiency in ProEngineer (PTC Creo) is preferred.
  • Experience with Mechanica (PTC Creo Simulate) is a plus.
  • Experience with thermal simulation and airflow testing is a plus.
  • Experience with liquid cooling systems is a plus.
  • Experience designing sheet metal parts using soft and hard tooling guidelines.
  • Experience with plastic part design for both cosmetic and non-cosmetic uses.
  • Familiarity with PDMLink (PTC Windchill) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with tests (shock, vibe, EMC, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to lift weights upwards of 50 pounds.
  • Fluent in English.

Pay

The estimated total annual compensation range for this position is $260,000 to $470,000, inclusive of base salary, bonus, and equity. Bonus and equity are discretionary, subject to plan terms, and not guaranteed. The base salary range for this role is $162,000 to $225,000, with variations based on work location, skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. U.S.-based employees are also entitled to benefits including medical, dental, vision, wellbeing, tax savings, and income protection programs.
