About the role

This is an on-site role located at Arista Headquarters in Santa Clara, CA or our site in Roseville, CA. Remote applicants must be willing to relocate to a commutable distance.

Responsibilities

  • Design the mechanical aspects of next-generation modules or chassis, addressing challenges such as structure, cooling, EMC, safety, manufacturability, cost, appearance, and tolerances.
  • Explore and implement design solutions using Creo 3D CAD, providing necessary drawings, critical dimensions, and 3D files for prototyping and manufacturing.
  • Schedule and manage peer and cross-functional team reviews of your design; participate in reviews of other engineers' designs.
  • Structure bill of materials (BOM), release, and change products using product lifecycle management tools (Agile).
  • Provide 3D models for thermal simulations and PCB design drawings/files to the ECAD design team; collaborate with electrical engineers and PCB layout to address placement concerns.
  • Work with contract manufacturers (CMs) and suppliers to address DFM (Design for Manufacturability) concerns.
  • Test prototypes in the lab against 3D MCAD designs and debug issues; communicate manufacturing issues to CMs.
  • Travel to suppliers to troubleshoot issues or expedite builds as required.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to resolve production-sustaining issues.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years of experience.
  • Relevant experience in mechanical design of computer/network equipment for data center environments is preferred.
  • Experience with ECO, BOM, and Deviation processes (Agile experience a plus).
  • Proficiency in ProEngineer (PTC Creo) and familiarity with Mechanica (PTC Creo Simulate) is a plus.
  • Experience with thermal simulation, airflow testing, and liquid cooling systems is a plus.
  • Experience designing sheet metal parts using soft and hard tooling guidelines.
  • Experience with plastic part design for both cosmetic and non-cosmetic uses.
  • Familiarity with PDMLink (PTC Windchill) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with tests (shock, vibe, EMC, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Fluent in English.

Pay

The base pay range for this role is $180,000 to $275,000, with a total estimated annual compensation range of $300,000 to $655,000, inclusive of base salary, bonus, and equity. Bonus and equity are discretionary and subject to plan terms. Actual compensation may vary based on performance, company policy, and other factors.
