About the role

The senior mechanical engineer is responsible for supporting the development and execution of technical projects by applying systems engineering principles, collaborating cross-functionally, and ensuring high-quality deliverables. This role involves managing projects and ensuring accountability for all project deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering theory and principles to problems of industrial layout and design.
  • Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, or drawings.
  • Research / review customer specifications to understand requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Collaborate with project team members including design engineers, project engineers and project managers and customers to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Work with design team to establish an engineering design plan and schedule for the project.
  • Ensure design compliance with Aegis and customer standards.
  • Research / review available as-built drawings.
  • Research / review available architectural drawings.
  • Travel to customer facilities to conduct site surveys and document as-built conditions.
  • Utilize 3D CAD software (Revit) and/or AutoCAD to create and edit material handling system designs.
  • Develop general arrangement drawings (high level equipment layouts).
  • Produce mechanical installation detail drawings, including plan views, elevations, cross-sections and bills of materials.
  • Specify components and materials required as per the design.
  • Prepare specifications, designs, or sketches for machines, components, or materials as required.
  • Check drawings and models and provide feedback to the design team.
  • Make drawing corrections / revisions as needed to meet the project requirements.
  • Report on drawing status on a regular cadence, maintaining the project schedule.
  • Prepare drawing packages and transmittals for customer reviews.
  • Attend trainings to enhance professional and technical knowledge.
  • Mentor and inspire peers and junior team members.
  • Help the team stay on track by supporting task execution and time management.
  • Lead internal design reviews for assigned projects; bringing together representatives from multiple disciplines to review system design, identify risks, incorporate feedback, and support successful project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Drafting and Design or similar technical program.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical conveyor / installation design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or other 3D CAD software.
  • Ability to lead projects with a few team members.
  • Proficient in Windows operating system environment with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a cross-functional / multi-disciplined team.
  • Ability to work within deadlines; focus and perform work accurately.
  • Experience mentoring junior team members.
  • Able to recognize when additional expertise is needed and escalate appropriately.
  • Willingness to travel, typically 15%.
