Senior Materials Engineer

About the role

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc. (SGA) is searching for a Senior Materials Engineer for a full-time opportunity with one of our premier clients in Oshkosh, WI. Onsite schedule 5x weekly 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.

Responsibilities

• Failure Analysis
• Materials Evaluation
• Technical Oral and Written Reports
• Maintain and keep the Materials and Process Laboratory in good working condition
• Utilize various materials and process engineering tools including digital camera, metallographic sample sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching equipment, light microscope, hardness testers, mechanical load frames, environmental exposure and corrosion chambers, scanning electron microscope with EDS and EBSD detectors
• Perform and understand material failure analysis activity
• Operate within department's A2LA accredited ISO 17025 quality management system
• Interface with outside analysis labs

Requirements

• Degree in Materials Science Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering
• CWI (Certified Weld Inspector) certification (able to renew if expired)
• Industry experience in any of the following: Welding, casting, forging, metal heat treating, metal finishing, metal extrusion, metal foundry, steel/aluminum mill, failure analysis

Communication Skills: Read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos; Read and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; Write routine reports, correspondence and speak effectively before both internal and external groups; Read, analyze and interpret business manuals, technical procedures and/or government regulations: Read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.

Environmental Demands: Frequent: Work Alone, Frequent Task Changes, Tedious/Exacting Work; Occasional: High Volume Public Contact.

Schedule

Routine shift hours. Infrequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation. Demands/Deadlines: High volume and variable work demands and deadlines impose strain on routine basis or considerable stress intermittently; OR regular direct contacts with distressed individuals within the immediate work environment; and/or exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
