About the role

Lead and deliver transformational raw material cost reduction for optical cables worldwide. Improve existing manufacturing processes for cost and performance using fundamental knowledge of materials, equipment, and process control. Solve manufacturing process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject-matter experts. Document and communicate lessons learned across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead regional or worldwide materials projects to increase capability, improve consistency, or reduce material cost while maintaining or improving product quality.
  • Assess potential material changes and their impact on Quality Architectures and PQA.
  • Drive early identification of material specification changes, assess engagement requirements across departments, and ensure implementation of cost-reduction actions.
  • Interface with Technology Materials, Division Engineering ORM, and Manufacturing teams to understand raw-material specifications and roadmap substitution/alternate materials projects.
  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject-matter experts.
  • Provide engineering expertise to build fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues.
  • Independently manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, ensuring timely execution and delivery of results.
  • Collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization, building strong partnerships to drive alignment, solve problems, and achieve project objectives.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Materials, Chemical, Mechanical, or Polymer Engineering/Science with 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply scientific methodology, data-driven analysis, and engineering principles to solve complex manufacturing problems and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Strong data-analysis and statistical skills; proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, Minitab, or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to evaluate alternatives and recommend optimal, data-driven solutions aligned with manufacturing, quality, and business objectives.
  • Up to 25% travel to suppliers and Corning manufacturing sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience analyzing and simplifying data from multiple sources to set direction.
  • Leadership ability to establish clear direction, set challenging goals, and drive accountability for measurable business results.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting.
  • Project management experience.

Pay

$95,402.00 – $131,179.00 per year (full-time). Starting pay depends on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
