Senior Material Handler (1st Shift) - Willoughby OH
About the role
Provides warehouse services through safe, efficient, cost-effective, and accurate handling of customer products and materials using specially equipped trucks such as slips-sheet, clamps, and reach. This position may involve all phases of loading, unloading, staging, and storage of customer products, as well as the use of computer equipment.
Responsibilities
- Pulling Orders
- Accurately locate and load, both by hand and using appropriate motorized equipment (e.g., forklift truck), customer product onto/from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves according to established procedures and safety regulations.
- Operate special equipment as necessary, such as turret clamp, slip sheet equipment, and RF unit (if applicable).
- Count, weigh, and record the number of units of materials handled on the daily production sheet.
- Complete specialized order processing for loading by stenciling, slip-sheeting, shrink wrapping, labeling, and consolidating as required on the order.
- Operating & Maintenance - Equipment and Grounds
- Assign/verify trailers to appropriate dock and/or yard location, ensuring trailers are locked to dock-lock and/or chocking the wheels (if applicable), following all safety rules and company policy.
- Daily inspect and repair or make adjustments before operating tow-motor vehicles, following safety and maintenance instructions. Complete the tow-motor inspection sheet at the beginning of each shift or when assigned to another piece of equipment; report immediately any defective equipment to supervisor.
- Prepare trailers prior to loading product by inspecting and cleaning as needed to ensure product preservation.
- Assist in building and grounds maintenance to ensure the facility is maintained in a clean, neat, safe, and orderly manner.
- Loading & Unloading
- Load picked orders (pull & load) according to policies and procedures, completing appropriate paperwork including Bill of Lading, Pick Report, Trailer Audit, and Lot Verification.
- Unload, move, stack, and stage customer products and materials both by hand and using forklift or other power equipment, keeping appropriate records and reports.
- Reports
- Complete activity and statistical reports as assigned by supervisor.
- Assist in physical inventories, ensuring facility and contents are secure.
- Miscellaneous
- Provide other services such as sanitation activities, assembling crates (boxes) to contain products, and/or moving loose materials to containers as directed by supervisor and/or team leader.

- Follow basic mandatory work instructions (including the use of personal protection equipment where relevant) to safeguard the environment and the well-being of oneself and others.

Requirements
- Forklift Certification.
- Preferred two (2) years of forklift/tow motor experience (forklift certification required).
- Ability to operate forklift (both sit-down and stand-up), tow motor, motorized and non-motorized pallet jack, clamp, reach, and slip sheet.
- Knowledge of inventory control and general warehouse procedures.
- Light data entry skills.
- Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
- Ability to write legibly.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to make decisions on customer acceptance based on past experience and fitness for use.
- Attention to detail for continuous mental and visual attention.

Pay
The hourly wage for this position is $21.75.
