About the role

The ideal candidate creates, develops, and produces basic to highly complex marketing and communications content to support marketing campaigns, brand management, internal programs, and employee communications. This role requires strong editorial judgment, storytelling ability, and audience awareness to craft polished materials that make complex topics understandable and useful.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative briefs, write copy, collaborate with designers and creative partners, and obtain necessary approvals before publishing materials.
  • Develop content using appropriate style, editorial guidelines, and channel strategy for the audience, platform, and business objective.
  • Publish and promote content across channels, including email, website, social media, press distribution, intranet, and advertising.
  • Partner with digital and channel specialists to align content with audience needs, campaign goals, and performance metrics.
  • Manage content assignments and communications programs from concept through publication, including timelines, budgets, calendars, reviews, and approvals.
  • Track key performance metrics and recommend adjustments based on results, feedback, and changing priorities.
  • Provide technical guidance, constructive review, and mentoring to junior staff to develop their writing, content judgment, interviewing skills, and collaboration abilities.
  • Conduct research, interviews, and background reviews to support the development of communications materials.
  • Demonstrate curiosity and the ability to quickly learn unfamiliar topics, ask thoughtful questions, and apply transferable skills across industries or subject areas.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Skills

  • Advanced writing, editing, and content development skills for sophisticated but not necessarily specialized audiences.
  • Ability to research technical information, conduct effective interviews, and synthesize complex ideas into useful communications.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and ability to quickly learn unfamiliar topics and apply transferable skills across industries.
  • Collaboration with technical staff, designers, digital/channel specialists, and stakeholders to enhance content creativity, accuracy, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Strong task and project management skills, including organizing assignments, managing timelines, and coordinating reviews.
  • Advanced written, oral, and presentation skills to explain content recommendations and project updates clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and digital channel platforms; ability to use content performance data to improve future communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent additional directly related experience.
  • 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required (10% or less).

Pay

The pay range for this position is $85,946.00 to $141,794.00 USD. Compensation is determined by factors including role, function, relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and education/training. All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
