About the Role
The Senior Market Lead - Leveraged Finance will be responsible for new strategic Sponsor relationship acquisition, relationship development, and resulting new business generation. This role operates within a flexible, hybrid work environment, balancing on-site and remote work as required by business needs.
Responsibilities
- Responsible and accountable for new strategic relationship acquisition and relationship development goals.
- Prioritize externally facing new business development efforts.
- Screen all Private Equity Sponsors in assigned coverage area to ensure they meet quantitative and qualitative metrics for targeted CIBC relationships.
- Perform ongoing Sponsor diligence through 3rd party reference checks, data aggregation subscription sources, etc.
- Seek to become a trusted advisor through regular Sponsor/Client contact, adding value through industry knowledge, leverage/EV comps, diligence introductions, etc.
- Maintain and develop Sponsor relationships by delivering an idea generation solutions approach, considering all Sponsor activities, goals, and portfolio.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for Sponsors’ relationship and credit needs.
- Bolster CIBC’s market presence within the Sponsor community and industry associations to promote the brand and cultivate prospects.
- Assist in structuring new opportunities and communicate to Sponsors to align client expectations with Bank requirements.
- Collaborate with commercial Relationship Managers, Leveraged Finance Underwriters, and credit officers to ensure top-notch client service.
- Develop and maintain Client Relationship Management (CRM) tracking for accurate pipeline forecasting.
- Provide guidance during credit events for new strategic relationships, collaborating with commercial banking Relationship Managers.
- Participate in initial opportunity screen discussions and maintain client communication throughout deal progression.
- Assist in deal negotiation as needed and participate in internal Sponsor pipeline meetings.
- Engage in portfolio reviews and management to stay informed on strategic relationship activity.
- Lead screening and periodic review efforts for new and existing Sponsor relationships.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in Leveraged Finance, with expertise in loan structuring, business development, and financial analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Completion of a Commercial Banking Training Program or equivalent is desirable.
- Proven track record in developing and managing client relationships in commercial banking.
- Strong financial acumen, including analysis of financial statements, cash flow, and valuation.

Pay
The expected salary range for this role is $200,000 - $250,000, based on experience, qualifications, and location. The successful candidate may also be eligible for incentive compensation, including a discretionary bonus.
