Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review manufacturing processes and implement cost-effective improvements focusing on set-up and changeover time reductions and equipment uptime, and process improvements on a continual basis.
  • Support and work closely with Production, Maintenance, Purchasing, Marketing, R&D, and many other functions of the company, with implementing SOP’s, setup instructions, training and debugging problem processes and equipment.
  • Consult Safety team, advise, design, and implement safety devices and lead changes to processes and equipment where and when necessary.
  • Analyze and reduce scrap and rework; identify reasons for scrap, implement corrective actions to reduce and monitor results, working with Quality department.
  • Provide Manufacturing Engineering input during product line start-ups and upgrading of existing production facilities, and processes.
  • Initiate cost reduction proposals in materials, manufacturing processes and product design.
  • Provide project management and project tracking and updates to the project team, as well as being able to organize a team to complete tasks and projects.
  • Design tools, jigs, fixtures, and complete manufacturing systems up to and including all existing and new processes company wide.
  • Support new product development with manufacturing introduction of changes.
  • Identify and assist in procuring better tools, fixtures, and equipment for manufacturing.
  • Submit initial proposal of Capital Expense Budgets for projects & in areas assigned.
  • Serve as implementation/cost advisor to all continuous improvement suggestions in areas assigned.
  • Aid in training if needed on new processes or process improvements.
  • Perform inspections on parts, components, tooling, and equipment using common metrology tools (micrometers, calipers, optical comparator, etc.).
  • Establish and monitor metrics for manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and implement procedures for testing/in-process inspection to assure quality at the source.
  • Suggest, project manage, and acquire automation equipment. Equipment ranges from semi-custom to full custom work centers. Ability to plan, specify, troubleshoot, justify, and organize the cross-functional activities for launch into production.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (BA) in an engineering related field from four-year college or university plus 7 to 10 years minimum experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.
  • Metal Forming Experience.
  • Experience in the design of dies and tools for forming metal.
  • Experience in troubleshooting manufacturing issues and concerns.
  • Experience in developing training for engineers, maintenance, and production personnel.
  • Experience in developing preventative maintenance programs.
  • Experience in purchasing capital equipment and running capital projects.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully, the qualified individual should be proficient in the use of Microsoft suite applications, CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and ERP Systems (JD Edwards preferred).
