About the role
As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will plan, direct, and coordinate manufacturing processes and projects in the plant. You will respond to manufacturing issues to ensure products are produced to specifications and according to schedules while ensuring efficient use of resources. The role reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and involves overseeing production machinery design, identifying solutions to production problems, and recommending improvements.
Responsibilities
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods under the direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
- Determine processes, materials, and supplies; design and build fixtures for cost-effective manufacturing.
- Establish bills of material, manufacturing routings, machine burdens, and new work centers.
- Create work instructions for new products.
- Design tools and machines used in manufacturing.
- Review production equipment, hardware, and tooling; recommend repairs or replacements.
- Oversee the development of new processes, methods, and production controls.
- Install and ensure correct operation of new equipment; train others on new machinery.
- Maintain knowledge of new manufacturing technologies and recommend implementations.
- Process internal engineering change orders (ECOs) and ensure changes are effective.
- Study and record time, motion, and methods to establish standard production rates and improve efficiencies.
- Recommend adjustments to production processes or product pricing.
- Perform engineering activities in compliance with company standards, engineering principles, and customer requirements.
- Confer with customers and engineering staff to ensure efficient production methods.
- Confer with vendors to determine part specifications and recommend equipment/material purchases.
- Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs for management decisions.
- Confer with management and staff regarding manufacturing capabilities and production schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Three to five or more years of experience in fabrication and welding of construction and agricultural equipment is preferred.
- Three or more years of experience with process development/deployment, tooling design, fixturing, and workstation layout in a production environment.
- Three years of experience as a manufacturing engineer is preferred.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude, communication, and computer skills.
- Ability to gather, manipulate, and analyze data.
- Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for assessing manufacturing equipment issues.
- Extensive knowledge of production principles and techniques.
- Proficiency with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.
Qualifications
BS Degree in Engineering or Manufacturing required.
Pay
Base Salary Range between $75,000 – $115,000 per year, plus a potential annual bonus based on performance metrics. Actual pay determined by experience level, skills, qualifications, and work location.
Schedule
This position is located onsite in Madison, South Dakota. Minimal travel is required.
