About the Opportunity

The Senior Manager, Transportation – 1st Shift oversees a multi-location transportation operation supporting up to 100 company drivers. This role is responsible for maintaining operational efficiency, financial performance, safety, compliance, and customer service while supporting driver recruitment, onboarding, retention, and the development of operations staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage overall profit and loss performance to meet budget and forecast targets.
  • Maintain effective communication and strong working relationships with company drivers.
  • Oversee tractor maintenance, regulatory compliance, and transportation service delivery.
  • Supervise 1–2 onsite managers responsible for teams of approximately 20–30 employees.
  • Monitor key operational metrics, including on-time pickup and delivery, shipment volume, equipment balance, and empty miles.
  • Ensure driver recruitment and retention efforts align with established fleet size goals.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Department of Transportation requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency, resource utilization, and service quality.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of transportation management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Department of Transportation rules and regulations.
  • Strong understanding of transportation industry principles, practices, and operational standards.
  • Proven experience managing drivers, transportation operations, and operational performance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, transportation, or a related field.
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in the transportation industry.
  • Experience managing dedicated fleets.
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize transportation operations, resources, and fleet performance.

Pay Range

Annual salary range: $118,623–$150,000 for positions performed in California. Compensation may be adjusted based on location, experience, qualifications, and company discretion.
