Senior Manager, Risk Advisory Services
Working under the authority of a Principal, the Senior Manager, Risk Advisory Services is responsible for managing and delivering high-value solutions to multiple clients in technology environments. This includes analyzing system security and access controls, backup recovery procedures, and IS organization and administration practices. The role oversees all aspects of internal audit, SOX, or consulting engagements, from planning and fieldwork to report composition and risk recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the documentation and testing of application and automated controls across a wide range of software applications.
- Act as the primary client contact for questions, progress updates, challenges, and issues identified during engagements.
- Conduct informational interviews and facilitate meetings with client management as needed.
- Collaborate with the Engagement Partner to communicate control gaps and process improvements to client Audit Committees and management.
- Ensure the client service team analyzes client processes, risks, and controls effectively.
- Oversee the development of risk-based audit plans and efficient project plans.
- Review, approve, and seek Partner approval for engagement budgets, identifying opportunities to improve engagement efficiencies.
- Ensure timely preparation of billings, collections, and recommendations for adjustments to engagement realization.
- Lead assigned client engagements to achieve engagement metrics and underlying economics.
- Identify and utilize research aids (e.g., databases, trade publications) to develop an understanding of the client’s industry.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with client personnel, including management.
- Prepare formal and informal presentations for client meetings, seeking Partner review and approval prior to delivery.
- Collaborate with Risk Advisory Services (RAS) and other practice partners to deliver optimal solutions to clients and expand market presence.
- Identify new business opportunities to grow the RAS practice and communicate these to the practice partner.
- Assist in developing draft proposals and reports, and complete research as needed.
- Manage marketing and business development activities, including updating marketing materials and website content.
- Develop thought leadership for the RAS practice by creating whitepapers and presentations on relevant topics.
- Foster a positive, learning-oriented, and client-service-focused attitude among managers, seniors, and staff.
- Travel up to 30% of the time.
- Perform other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise the workload of Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates on assigned engagements and review their work product.
- Ensure team members are trained on all relevant software.
- Evaluate performance, assist in goal-setting, and support professional development for Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates.
- Deliver periodic performance feedback and complete performance evaluations in accordance with firm guidance.
- Act as a mentor to Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates.
- Project a professional, positive attitude toward both client and firm personnel.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or Business Intelligence (required).
- MBA or other relevant advanced degree (preferred).
- Ten (10) years of experience with a public accounting firm or Fortune 1000 company performing:
- Risk assessments, internal audits, Sarbanes-Oxley readiness services, or internal control assessments.
- Management consulting as a Financial, Operational, or Information Technology Subject Matter Expert.
- Experience performing audits within a public accounting environment (required).
- Experience performing audits in industries such as manufacturing, retail, distribution, or energy (required, based on practice needs).
- Significant supervisory experience (required).
- Experience with:
- Process reviews, systems reviews, and reviews of application controls.
- Internal controls, including process control design, flowchart preparation, control matrices, documentation/testing of controls, and identification/reporting of control gaps.
- Audit planning, developing audit programs, performing testing, preparing work papers, and drafting audit reports.
- Experience in client marketing, including managing multiple client pursuits and proposal efforts (preferred).
- Certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), or equivalent (required).
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with ACL, IDEA, and MS Access (preferred).
- Experience with assurance applications and research tools appropriate for this role (preferred).
- Solid understanding of planning and coordinating all stages of an internal audit.
- Knowledge of internal accounting controls, professional standards, and regulations.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, including business and report writing.
- Ability to adapt communication style for professionals at all levels within client organizations and the firm.
- Ability to multi-task effectively while working independently or within a team.
- Thought leadership in governance, risk, and control topics.
- Superior analytical and diagnostic skills, with the ability to resolve complex issues.
- Capability to work in a demanding, deadline-driven environment with a focus on detail and accuracy.
- Strong project management skills.
- Solid knowledge of US GAAP, GAAS, SEC, and PCAOB reporting rules; familiarity with IFRS (a plus).
- Excellent people development and delegation skills, including training, instruction, and engagement scheduling/budgeting.
- Executive presence to act as the primary client contact and prepare/present to clients and prospects.
- Ability to resolve complex business issues.
- Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel.
Pay
Individual salaries are determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. The following ranges apply:
- California: $160,000 - $190,000
- Colorado: $160,000 - $190,000
- Illinois: $160,000 - $190,000
- Maryland: $160,000 - $190,000
- Massachusetts: $160,000 - $190,000
- Minnesota: $160,000 - $190,000
- New Jersey: $160,000 - $190,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $160,000 - $190,000
- Washington: $160,000 - $190,000
- Vermont: $160,000 - $190,000
- Washington DC: $160,000 - $190,000
