About the Role

This exempt position’s primary role is to provide strategic business development counseling for the Leveraged Finance, Real Estate Finance, and Restructuring sections. The Senior Manager of Business Development (Sr BDM) will lead a team of marketing professionals to help lawyers develop profitable new business from existing and target clients. This role can be based in Dallas, Charlotte, or New York.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of marketing and business development strategies, plans, and projects, nationally and internationally.
  • Work with lawyers to identify and evaluate new business opportunities and targets, facilitate cross-collaboration initiatives, participate on client-specific target teams, and support lawyers’ efforts to maintain a sales pipeline.
  • Act as BD lead on firmwide initiatives and projects, working directly with firm management, including presenting progress and results to leadership.
  • Proactively counsel lawyers on business development best practices, strategies, and techniques.
  • Stay abreast of current developments and trends impacting clients and prospects through proactive market research; collaborate with the firm’s Competitive Intelligence team to secure actionable intelligence.
  • Manage, counsel, and mentor a dedicated team of marketing professionals supporting designated groups.
  • Effectuate the successful integration of lateral partners into the firm, with a focus on target priorities.
  • Work with section leadership to identify opportunities to promote lawyers and clients via awards, recognition, and ranking opportunities.
  • Supervise all projects, events, RFP/RFI/proposal/pitch opportunities, deal tracking, directory submissions, and ensure quality assurance on work product.
  • Collaborate with Public Relations/Media and Social Media groups to secure effective exposure for practice groups and lawyers.
  • Develop and manage the group business development budget(s) for designated sections and offices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of marketing, business development, or related experience required; law firm or professional services experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in InterAction, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and leading-edge competitive and business intelligence tools.

Physical Demands

  • Remains stationary at least 75% of the time; may require movement up to 100% of the time during special events.
  • Constant operation of computers, printers, and other office productivity machines.
  • Occasionally required to move documents or files weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Constant communication and exchange of information with lawyers, clients, and staff.
  • Must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment.
  • Work frequently requires more than 40 hours per week to perform essential duties.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Reports to: Director of Business Development with a dotted line to the Chief Marketing Officer. Responsible for managing a specialist and assistant.
