The Role
We are looking for a Senior Manager, Financial Modeling- FP&A to serve as the cornerstone of IonQ’s long-range financial modeling function. This is a high-impact role designed to own, enhance, and administer core financial models — someone who can take complexity, pressure, and uncertainty and redirect it into clear, rigorous financial insight.
Responsibilities
- Own and maintain IonQ’s centralized long-range integrated financial model (3-statement: income statement, balance sheet, cash flow), serving as the single source of truth for all forward-looking financial planning
- Design and execute rigorous scenario analysis and sensitivity stress-testing frameworks to evaluate the financial impact of key business drivers, market conditions, and strategic decisions
- Lead capital burn forecasting and runway modeling, providing the CFO and executive team with clear visibility into IonQ’s liquidity position under multiple operating scenarios
- Partner with FP&A, Corporate Development, and Investor Relations teams to ensure model outputs are accurate, auditable, and presentation-ready for board, investor, and lender audiences
- Build and continuously refine modular model architecture that allows for rapid scenario updates as business conditions evolve
- Establish and document modeling standards, assumptions libraries, and version control protocols to institutionalize best practices across the finance organization
- Translate complex model outputs into clear executive narratives and visual materials for senior leadership and external stakeholders
- Proactively identify risks and opportunities embedded in financial data, communicating findings with clarity and urgency to relevant stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvements in IonQ’s planning systems and tooling, including potential integration with FP&A platforms such as Pigment, Onestream, or Adaptive
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related analytical field
- 5–8 years of progressive financial modeling experience, with a strong preference for backgrounds in investment banking, private equity, or hedge funds
- Expert-level command of 3-statement integrated financial modeling, including the mechanical and conceptual relationships between the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
- Demonstrated mastery of scenario analysis and sensitivity stress-testing, with the ability to model complex interdependencies and non-linear outcomes
- Deep experience in financial modeling including: fixed asset runoff, stock-based compensation modeling, treasury management, and percentage-of-completion revenue modeling
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; ability to build from scratch, audit, and refactor institutional-grade financial models
- High degree of intellectual independence — comfortable driving analytical work from ambiguous inputs with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated resilience and composure in fast-moving, high-pressure environments with significant market or operational volatility
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a financial modeling analyst or associate at an investment bank, private equity firm, or transaction diligence consulting
- Exposure to capital markets transactions (follow-on equity, convertible notes, debt financings) and the associated financial modeling and diligence workstreams
- Familiarity with FP&A platforms such as Pigment, OneStream, or Adaptive Insights
- Experience supporting investor relations or corporate development functions, including earnings preparation and board-level materials
- Familiarity with BI and data visualization tools such as Power BI
- Interest in and aptitude for learning technical subject matter in deep-tech or quantum computing industries
- CFA charterholder or progress toward the CFA designation
