Senior Manager, Customer Supply Chain Solutions

About the Role

Sysco services a wide range of market segments including food service management companies, restaurants, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, hospitality and tourism companies, and other customers that prepare meals away from home. The Sr Manager Customer Supply Chain Solutions will lead a team of supply chain experts functioning as business consultants to specific customer verticals (Restaurant, Foodservice Management, and Healthcare/Retail/Travel). This role develops tailored supply chain strategies and offerings to increase Sysco sales, earned income, and profitability while delivering mutual benefit for customers.

The Sr Manager CSCS is responsible for developing external interest in Sysco supply chain solutions and collaborates closely with Customers, Sales, Marketing, Merchandising, and Operations to leverage end-to-end distribution network models and develop alternative distribution offerings. These offerings combine sources of supply, proprietary items, and delivery points to deliver optimal supply chain costs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the customer supply chain solution program for assigned customer segments, including customer engagement on supply chain opportunities, development of distribution strategies, RFP proposal responses, inbound and outbound supply chain optimization initiatives, customer KPI monitoring, customer-specific projects, and coordination with operations and other functional areas.
  • Lead customer presentations and proposals to secure project opportunities.
  • Develop solution offerings for corporate multi-unit (CMU) customers that deliver cost-effective supply chains, including operating company alignment, product sources, and customer ordering practices.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent for an assigned customer segment.
  • Engage directly with CMU customers in business development activities and execute supply chain optimization projects.
  • Work closely with CMU sales to identify and prioritize customer supply chain opportunities to attract new business and increase profitability of existing business.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in sales opportunities through broad knowledge of the foodservice supply chain, incorporating aspects of product sources, upstream facilities, inbound transportation, warehousing, product mix, inventory, outbound transportation, and order processing to shape customer supply chain strategies.
  • Identify and implement cross-functional strategies to improve overall cost and service performance for customers.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders across Supply Chain Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain Services, Finance, and Corporate Business Development to develop strategies, assumptions, timelines, and deliverables on customer supply chain opportunities.
  • Collaborate with sales and other departments for successful customer onboarding.
  • Provide thought leadership on proven distribution strategies that achieve higher supply chain performance and deliver value to Sysco and customers.
  • Incorporate a holistic view of the supply chain in solution development, including operating costs, logistics costs, product costs, earned income, physical constraints, service requirements, and growth trends.
  • Utilize problem-solving abilities and fact-based methods to identify, define, and resolve specific problems in customer supply chains.
  • Clarify and resolve complex business issues by breaking them down into meaningful components, redesigning internal and external business processes as necessary.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders throughout the process, including final customer proposals.
  • Identify and document logistics cost savings and productivity improvement opportunities within the network, providing recommendations and implementation plans to the management team and customers.
  • Lead the development of customer management reporting tools to monitor performance and identify improvement areas.
  • Monitor performance of key customer KPIs and operations KPIs, initiating discussions to improve performance.
  • Support enterprise initiatives with customer profitability and cost modeling.
  • Develop and document standard deliverables and operating procedures for the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by department leadership.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, or another relevant field of study.
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Operations Management, or Supply Chain Management preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in distribution supply chain modeling, distribution operations cost analysis, or sales support for a logistics service provider.
  • Minimum of 2 years of project management experience.

  • Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with leaders inside and outside the organization, including business segment leaders, Supply Chain Operations, Legal, Enterprise Risk Management, Sales and Marketing, Human Resources, Business Technology, and executive-level leadership.
  • Ability to persevere and achieve goals despite obstacles and resistance.
  • APICS CPIM, CSCP, and/or CLTD certification desired.
  • Familiarity with advanced computer engineering, optimization, analytics, and database tools such as Llamasoft Supply Chain Guru, Databases and SQL, Tableau, AutoCAD, Sysco Suite of Applications (SWMS, FLEX, Optislot, Roadnet, SOS, SLS, STS, Telogis, SUS, TMS, DPM, SAP), I2 Supply Chain Strategist, SAS, and R.
  • Self-sufficient computer literacy, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical Demands

  • Travel required 25% of the time.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone.
  • Frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Limited travel to Sysco facilities or operating companies may be required.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
