Senior Manager, Communications

We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven leader to partner closely with our team to help execute our enterprise-wide communications strategy. As the Senior Manager of Communications, you will play a critical role in shaping how the world sees Rayonier. Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will help set the communication agenda, amplify our narrative as a leading land resources REIT, and build an inspired connection across our entire organizational footprint. Responsibilities
- Strategic Storyteller: Thrive on finding the story behind our vast land assets, sustainability achievements, and corporate milestones, turning them into compelling, high-impact narrative assets.
- Adaptable Communicator: Bridge internal and external audiences seamlessly—crafting executive messaging one day and producing multi-channel digital content or managing media requests the next.
- Culture Catalyst: Bridge gaps across diverse business groups and geographically distributed teams, delivering internal communication channels that inspire, educate, and connect our employees.
- Media & Stakeholder Partner: Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, industry organizations, and community stakeholders, supporting both proactive messaging and reactive issues management.
- Creative Producer: Oversee website content updates, newsletter revamps, and plan and direct on-site photo shoots, video productions, and podcasts.
Key Accountabilities
- Strategic & Executive Communications
- Strategic Alignment: Partner closely with the Director of Communications to execute enterprise-wide communication and brand strategies aligned with corporate, sustainability, and investor priorities.
- Executive & Internal Messaging: Support leadership communications, town halls, and internal channels to align and inspire a distributed, multi-location workforce.
- Brand & Digital Management: Maintain brand standards and oversee digital content across corporate website, intranet, and social media platforms.
- External & Media Relations
- Media & Issues Management: Draft press releases, handle media inquiries, build industry stakeholder relationships, and monitor public sentiment to mitigate emerging issues.
- Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with business units (Forestry, Real Estate, Legal, Finance) and Investor Relations to ensure unified messaging for company initiatives and events.
- Content Creation & Creative Production
- Multi-Channel Storytelling: Write, edit, and publish engaging content highlighting Rayonier’s land stewardship, climate solutions, and business achievements across digital, social, and print channels.
- Multimedia Production: Plan and lead on-site video shoots, photo shoots, and podcast production.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience: 5–8 years of progressive communications experience, preferably within natural resources, forestry, or related industrial sectors.
Skills
- Proactive Execution: Proven ability to identify storytelling opportunities and manage multiple complex communication projects and deadlines effectively.
- Exceptional Craft: Mastery of writing, editing, proofreading, and multimedia storytelling.
- Digital & Multimedia Savvy: Hands-on experience planning and overseeing photo/video shoots, managing website and newsletter designs, and creating content across digital platforms.
- Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is preferred.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Solid experience in media relations, community engagement, and supporting crisis/issues management.
- Distributed Team Engagement: Demonstrated success designing internal communications that connect office-based, remote, and field-based teams.
Working Conditions
This role is primarily based out of our Atlanta corporate office environment with extended periods of computer use. Domestic travel (estimated at 25–30%) will be required to support photo shoots, site visits, stakeholder meetings, and external representation. May be exposed to lumber mill environment (noise, dust, moving equipment).
