Senior Manager; Clinical Informatics

Accountable for delivering value-added healthcare informatics and technology that supports the organization’s strategic plan and achieves clinical, financial, and service quality objectives. Organizes and manages teams, risks, costs, and communication at all levels. May include responsibility for managing other informatics resources and providing leadership to one or more facilities. Ensures the quality of informatics services, competency and performance of clinical informatics nurses, and designs systems to support multidisciplinary team functioning and continuity of services.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, manages, and evaluates clinical informatics services to enable effective achievement of clinical, financial, and service quality objectives.
  • Collaborates with medical staff leadership to assess clinical informatics requirements for a changing patient population and plans strategies to meet UMMS objectives.
  • Ensures excellence in clinical informatics services, including meeting medical center requirements, improving clinical outcomes, and achieving productivity and expense reduction goals.
  • Assures programs, services, and staff performance meet regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Develops effective administrative, coordination, and communication systems to ensure departmental operations.
  • Plans, executes, and finalizes projects according to timelines and budgets, using data to assess evolving program requirements and evaluate performance.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to redesign and improve clinical programs.
  • Identifies complex clinical process and informatics issues, monitors risk factors, and communicates them to executives and stakeholders.
  • Manages projects to ensure continuous quality control of processes and deliverables.
  • Builds networks of internal and external subject matter experts, including executives, to review solutions and gain commitment on recommendations.
  • Identifies barriers to change and guides teams in managing ambiguity and complexity.
  • Assumes a leadership role in managing the quality of services within the organization.
  • Implements systems to assess and respond to customer perceptions of service, incorporating feedback into service design.
  • Manages and improves process performance, teaching and coaching staff in process analysis and improvement techniques.
  • Manages human and fiscal resources to meet financial goals and achieve identified outcomes.
  • Participates in the development, communication, monitoring, and management of departmental budgets (salary, non-salary, and capital).
  • Develops and implements staffing strategies to support departmental excellence.
  • Directs recruitment, selection, orientation, competency validation, professional development, and staff recognition systems.
  • Creates performance management systems with clear expectations, peer feedback, and effective handling of performance outcomes.
  • Fosters teamwork and open communication among staff, modeling effective behaviors as a facilitator, coach, and leader.
  • Creates a departmental climate that values diversity and supports career development for minority staff.
  • Uses, interprets, and communicates data from financial reports, clinical and service quality data, and external market information to guide staff.
  • Translates organizational goals, mission, values, and priorities into departmental objectives and facilitates staff discussions on healthcare practice issues.
  • Supports innovation in clinical practice and care delivery by staying current with healthcare informatics literature and incorporating research findings.
  • Ensures patient safety and participates in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Identifies and corrects risks to patient safety, reporting adverse events and near misses to management.
  • Identifies potential risks in processes, procedures, and devices, communicating them to relevant authorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other clinical specialty (e.g., respiratory therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech-language pathology) is required.
  • Master’s degree with clinical specialist, management, or business management coursework is preferred.
  • Clinical license in the State of Maryland or eligibility for licensure due to compact state agreements is required.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience, including experience leading enterprise projects.
  • Three years of clinical experience.
  • Significant lab informatics experience.

Pay

Pay Range: $51.82 - $77.78 per hour.
