Senior Manager Applied Science, Prime Video Personalization & Discovery
About the role
Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering customers a vast collection of premium programming in one app available across thousands of devices. Prime members can customize their viewing experience and find their favorite movies, series, documentaries, and live sports – including Amazon MGM Studios-produced series and movies; licensed fan favorites; and programming from Prime Video add-on subscriptions such as Apple TV+, Max, Crunchyroll and MGM+. All customers, regardless of whether they have a Prime membership or not, can rent or buy titles via the Prime Video Store, and can enjoy even more content for free with ads.
Prime Video Personalization and Discovery organization operates at a global scale and is a critical part of Prime Video’s flywheel. We are responsible for matching customers with the right content at the right time, at all touch points throughout customers' content discovery journey: from home page, title page, and search page, to showing recommendations at the end of an episode or a movie. We drive both immediate and long-term business objectives while delighting our customers.
Responsibilities
- Optimize the complete customer experience across all touch points in the content discovery journey.
- Build AI and optimization solutions to balance customer delight and business outcomes.
- Work with product and engineering teams to deliver personalized recommendations, search, and marketing experiences.
- Distill informal customer requirements into problem definitions, handling ambiguity and competing objectives.
- Hire, lead, and develop experienced scientists as well as mentor junior team members from academia or industry.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience building large-scale machine learning and AI solutions at Internet scale.
- Master's degree in Computer Science (Machine Learning, AI, Statistics, or equivalent).
- Experience building large-scale machine learning and AI solutions at Internet scale.
- Experience distilling informal customer requirements into problem definitions while dealing with ambiguity and competing objectives.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of practical work applying ML to solve complex problems for large-scale applications.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in big data, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
- 5+ years of people management experience.
- PhD in Computer Science (Machine Learning, AI, Statistics, or equivalent).
- Experience with big data technologies such as AWS, Hadoop, Spark, Pig, Hive, etc.
- Experience with programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, R, or MATLAB.

Pay
Base salary range: $218,800.00 - $295,900.00 USD annually (for Seattle, WA). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
