AccountingFull-time

Here at NHS Lanarkshire, we put the patient at the heart of everything we do. Each colleague within the organisation plays a key role in how we deliver our healthcare services. We proudly serve a population of 655,000 across rural and urban communities in both North and South Lanarkshire. NHS Lanarkshire is comprised of Acute Services (which currently provide hospital-based services over 3 main sites), Corporate & Property & Support Services, and North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships, which provide integrated primary healthcare and social care services to local communities and surrounding areas.

About the role

As a Senior Management Accountant, you will contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of Division strategy that will allow it to meet its aims of providing the best possible standard of care. You will advise the Executive Directors, Budget Holders, and other Senior Managers on the implementation of financial strategies and performance required to support this aim, providing specialist knowledge, expertise, and advice in respect of all financial matters.

You will play an active role in the planning, development, and maintenance of the Division’s corporate and financial governance systems, including overseeing sound systems of financial control. This role will have a specific responsibility for the organisation’s capital strategy, maximising access to funding, ensuring business plans are well evaluated and translate into optimal financial plans, ensuring the strategy is well monitored and adapts to changes, and ensuring there are good controls over the organisation’s £897 million asset base. You will also coordinate the organisation’s financial efficiency plans.

All senior management accountants are expected to contribute to organisation-wide projects or financial modelling outside their specific area of responsibility, though this may happen more frequently in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse and interpret data from the Directorate as part of the annual budget review process to support the strategic planning process for the Division.
  • Work with Senior Managers and other relevant Directorate staff to identify key financial pressures and their impact on the Division’s ability to achieve recurring financial balance.
  • In times of service change, provide financial support and guidance to Divisional staff to ensure a robust financial assessment is undertaken, clearly identifying all costs, potential future benefits, and opportunities. Ensure these processes align with Divisional financial operating procedures and standing financial instructions, linking with senior NHSL finance staff to maintain consistency with strategic planning objectives.

    • Board-level financial modelling, scenario planning, and analysis.
    • Presenting monthly and year-end financial positions to senior finance and executive-level staff.
    • Forecasting at divisional level for future years' financial plans.
  • CCAB, CIMA, or overseas equivalent qualification; or evidence of actively studying toward completion of the qualification.
  • Well-developed knowledge of issues affecting the NHS and their impact on financial strategy and management.

Benefits

  • Annual leave: 35 days (including public holidays).
  • Generous NHS pension scheme.
  • Annual incremental salary progression.
  • Paid sick leave increasing with length of service.
  • NHS discounts and more.
